Cardiff hosts an ambitious and innovative university with a bold and strategic vision located in a beautiful and thriving capital city of Wales. Our world-leading research was ranked 5th amongst UK universities in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework for quality and 2nd for impact. This means that discoveries in laboratory and other settings are translated effectively for societal benefits. We provide an educationally outstanding experience for our students. In the sciences, this includes medicine, biosciences, physics, chemistry and engineering disciplines amongst many others. We host a large cohort of postgraduate research students, supported by the Doctoral Academy providing research and personal skills development, and a range of interdisciplinary community events, funding opportunities, within dedicated space for postgraduate research students.
The ESR will be hosted at the Tissue Microenvironment Group; a multidisciplinary research team investigating pathological changes in tissue, especially in solid cancers such as Prostate. The team is based at the University Hospital of Wales, and is close to clinical specialties and patients. We collaborate broadly for example through the NanoSome Network, to provide access to cutting edge infrastructure, and facilitate development of broad multidisciplinary skill sets for postgraduate researchers.
Cardiff University received the European Commission’s award of HR Excellence in Research; recognising progress made in supporting researchers and the on-going commitment to the principles of the European Charter and Code for Researchers.
Cardiff University also holds an Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze award, and is committed to these principles, and recognise the need for cultural shifts and plans ensuring gender equality in its broadest sense.
